Dorothy Cates Stripling, 101, died on June 9, in Richardson, Texas. She was born to Minnie and H.P. Cates on April 27, 1916 in Kaufman County, Texas. Dorothy graduated from Kaufman High School in 1934, and on August 28, 1937, she married Wilton Woodrow (Buddy) Stripling, who preceded her in death in 1991. Dorothy was a native Texan, living in Dallas, Houston, New Boston, Tyler and Plano before moving to Richardson in 2006.



Dorothy was intensely proud of her three children. She supported them in Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, New Boston Band, and church...

Dorothy Cates Stripling, 101, died on June 9, in Richardson, Texas. She was born to Minnie and H.P. Cates on April 27, 1916 in Kaufman County, Texas. Dorothy graduated from Kaufman High School in 1934, and on August 28, 1937, she married Wilton Woodrow (Buddy) Stripling, who preceded her in death in 1991. Dorothy was a native Texan, living in Dallas, Houston, New Boston, Tyler and Plano before moving to Richardson in 2006.



Dorothy was intensely proud of her three children. She supported them in Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, New Boston Band, and church activities. As an accomplished seamstress, she made many prom dresses for her friends as well as wedding dresses for her family. Dorothy worked for the Bowie County Agricultural Agent and retired from the payroll department at Red River Army Depot.



Dorothy was also preceded in death by her four siblings: Altus Cates, H. R. Cates, Aubrey Cates, and Joyce Cates Anderson.



Dorothy is survived by three children and their spouses: Dr. Wilton Dennis Stripling and wife, Bettye, of Dallas. Dr. Rosanne Stripling and husband, Dr. Larry Sullivan, of Texarkana. Dr. Lyndel Cates Stripling and wife, Kathy, of Garland, Texas. She was very proud of her seven grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.



Dorothy was a member of the Prairie Creek Baptist Church in Plano and a retired Federal employee.



Memorial services will be held at 3:00 pm on Thursday, June 15, at the Anderson-Clayton Funeral Home, in Kaufman, Texas with Rev. Pat Cooper officiating. Interment will be in the Kaufman Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Matthew Ambort, Brian Howell, Cameron Loveless, Kirk Loveless, Karl Ludwig, Denny Stripling, Ben Walker and Steve Walker.



Memorials may be made in her name to the American Cancer Society.
